Avondale farm manager Bernie Bierhoff was highly impressed by the benefits of BEST Terramend Agricultural (TM Ag), particularly its impact on soil structure and the activation of native soil biology. His admiration stemmed from an incident involving a flooding event shortly after planting chickpea seeds.
Following an aerial assessment of the paddocks, Bernie, drawing on his years of farming experience, concluded that the newly planted chickpeas had likely been lost due to the total submersion under floodwaters.
However, to his surprise, most of the chickpeas germinated successfully, except in areas where water had pooled for an extended period. Intrigued, Bernie conducted a field soil test to understand the phenomenon better. The results revealed significant improvements in soil aggregation, water infiltration, and water percolation. These enhancements had mitigated the impact of the flooding, allowing the majority of the chickpeas to thrive.
The chickpea roots exhibited robust growth, and the plants remained healthy and disease-free despite the adverse incident. Bernie attributed these remarkable outcomes to the activation of native soil biology facilitated by TM Ag, which had transformed the soil’s resilience and productivity.
